Boutique Bridal Alterations

Curating the fit

Fittings at Fit and Flair are designed to live up to the name, curated to feel like a restorative exhale that leaves you feeling radiant in the perfect fit and empowered to embrace the magic of your special day.

What your time with Nia will look like

  • 1) Framing the vision

When: 10–12 weeks before your wedding day.

This is your opportunity to share your love story and every detail of your vision, from the 'why' behind your dress to all your top priorities. Whether your dream is a perfectly snatched waist, a custom cape, or contouring to accentuate your curves, the options are abundant. Your dress will be gently pinned to map out its transformation, and personalized guidance will be offered to address any concerns you might have.

In light of keeping everything transparent and stress-free, the fitting will conclude with a cup of tea and a walk-through of your detailed pricing estimate and a mutual agreement. This ensures every bride feels completely confident and cared for before the first stitch is ever taken.

  • 2) Perfecting the fit

When: 4–6 weeks before your wedding day.

Halfway there! All the details will be checked at this point to make sure your gown is hugging you in all the right places, while not forgetting about comfort (and of course cake!). With the fit dialed in, your hem and bustle will be marked, ensuring your train won’t be stepped on during your reception.

If your dress has lace or beads, don't worry if those lovely appliqués aren’t quite sewn back down yet. Think of this as the ‘beautifully unfinished’ stage, where you get a peek into the magic of the tailoring process. It will all come together in your final fitting.

Please note: If custom changes are being added to your gown, an extra fitting or two may be added in your timeline so all the fine points are covered.

  • 3) Fit meets Flair

When: 10–14 days before your wedding day.

This is it—the moment your vision becomes a reality! You are so welcome to invite up to two guests to share in the celebration. Feel free to also arrive with your wedding hair and makeup done and any accessories you’re considering so you can experience your complete bridal look.

Once you're here, your gown will be checked one last time to confirm it feels exactly as you imagined. Transparency is everything; if there’s anything you don’t absolutely love, this is the time to speak up. A few final prep tips will be discussed, and a bustle tutorial recorded so you and your bridal party feel grounded and present on the big day. This is your time to shine, where the fit, the flair, and your joy all harmonize together.

 FAQs about alterations

  • Booking with Fit and Flair is encouraged as far as 9–12 months in advance, or as soon as the dress is chosen, as the calendar fills quickly. Once a bride is confirmed, the transformation journey begins 10–12 weeks before the wedding date.

If the wedding is fast-approaching, there is no need to worry. Nia has successfully completed alterations in as little as one week. To ensure every gown receives the Fit and Flair signature care, a rush fee applies to projects with a timeline of less than six weeks. A limited amount of "wiggle room" is held in the studio calendar each month for rush brides, and requests are accepted as the schedule reasonably allows.

  • The most important items to bring to all fittings will be your chosen wedding shoes and the undergarments you plan to wear under your dress. Most wedding gowns today have structure (called boning) built-in to them to eliminate the necessity of a bra or corset. However, if you plan to wear any specific undergarments or shapewear with your gown, you will need to bring those to each appointment. Shapewear can dramatically change the way a gown sits on the body, so consistency is key to ensure your ideal fit is achieved!

  • Hemming is the art of tailoring a gown to the perfect length. This height is customized based on the wedding venue—whether gliding across a ballroom floor or walking through grass or sand—and the specific height of the bridal shoes. In most cases, the goal is for the gown to just barely brush the ground for an effortless, floating effect. To ensure a flawless final length, please remember to bring your chosen wedding shoes to each appointment.

  • The bustle is a series of small hooks and loops, or ribbon ties, that pull up the train of your gown, transforming the hem to become floor-length all the way around. This allows you to dance and move about freely throughout your reception, and keeps your guests from accidentally stepping on your train.

There are a number of potential design options for bustles, and Nia will go over which ones are compatible for you and your gown during your second fitting. During your last fitting, we will film a bustle tutorial that you can use for reference on your wedding day.

  • Caring for the most important people in your life is a joy at Fit and Flair. Alterations for mothers and bridesmaids generally require a shorter window of 2 to 4 weeks. Depending on the season and the intricacy of the work, a custom timeline will be established to ensure the entire bridal party feels relaxed and confident.

  • To ensure the journey is as smooth as possible, Fit and Flair utilizes a structured payment schedule. A deposit is required to secure your wedding date on the studio calendar, with the remaining balance divided into two manageable installments due by the second and final fittings. Additionally, the studio is pleased to offer a 5% discount to brides who choose to settle their balance in cash as small token of appreciation.

  • Fluctuations are a natural part of the journey, and the Fit and Flair three-step fitting process is built to handle them with ease. If a timeline requires extra care due to body changes, please include a note in the initial inquiry form. Whether by condensing the schedule or adding a bonus fitting, the process is designed to adjust as needed, ensuring every bride feels cared for and confident in her gown.

  • Nia is aware that there will be brides who are allergic to cats. To help reduce allergens, the cats are not allowed in the studio room, and extra care is taken to clean surfaces prior to appointments with allergic brides. That being said, due to the vents in the home, a dander-free room cannot be guaranteed. If you are severely allergic, Fit and Flair may not be the ideal fit for you.

  • Because your gown is a work of art, its story shouldn't end at the altar. Fit and Flair is proud to partner with Idaho Gown Preservation to offer elite cleaning and archival services that protect your gown for decades. As a special gift, brides will receive a complimentary personalized engraving (a $100 value) when booking preservation through the studio.

Using expert techniques to treat every detail—including those 'invisible' stains—the preservation team artfully wraps your gown in archival tissue before packing it into a museum-grade preservation box. It’s the ultimate way to ensure your heirloom stays as flawless as the day it was worn down the aisle.

“I had such an amazing experience with Fit and Flair Bridal. My husband and I planned our full wedding in 6 weeks. I needed someone to alter my dress quickly. Nia not only finished my dress in an amazingly timely manner, but the price was more than fair. I would recommend Fit and Flair to anyone!”
